Culling your images is important for a few reasons. First, you only want to show your client your best images so you maintain the professionalism of your brand and your client will be better able to select their favorite images if they have a small curated selection to choose from.
Our culling service takes the effort out of selecting the best images from a shoot. Our Premium Culling Service covers shots from up to four unique cameras or photographers. It is an appropriate choice if you are using Lightroom*. Specifically, we will:
- Insert your photographer’s copyright into the image metadata
- Flag the images to keep and those which are rejected
- Filter and sort the shoot with our standard event categories: Getting Dressed, Bride and Groom, Guys, Gals, Reception, Ceremony, Formals, Reception, Toasts, Traditional Dances, Cake cutting, Bouquet and Garter, Details and Tables, and Candid.
- Pick up to 10 images for you to post to Facebook by placing in a special collection inside the Lightroom catalog.
- Pick images appropriate to send to other event vendors to build your marketing network.
- Select the top 100 images for an album or slide show- Only offered with Premium Culling
Starting at 250 images, we offer pricing levels up to 5,000 images. Prices for jobs over 5,000 images are available on request.

This service is specifically designed for Adobe Photoshop Lightroom versions 5 or greater. If you are using Lightroom version 4 or older or if you use Bridge, please see Culling for Bridge.
The process is simple- just choose a number of images you’d like to edit and start a job. Once you check out, you’ll have access to your personalized dashboard that will walk you through the steps to upload your photos fast!
The Uploading Process
Uploading thousands of high-resolution RAW files can take multiple hours. To prevent this long uploading time, you’ll send us a Lightroom catalog and Smart Previews.
This type of smaller DNG files will allow you to upload your photos way faster and provide us the ability to edit your images while being disconnected from your hard drives holding the SOOC (Straight out of Camera) RAW files.
How You’ll Get Your Finished Photos
Using the Smart Previews and the Lightroom catalog, we’ll cull your images and will return the Lightroom catalog containing all your culled photos.
As soon as you download and open the Picsera processed catalog you’ll be able to see all of your culled photos. The catalog is a small fraction of the size of your entire set of RAW files making the file transfer from Picsera to your desktop super fast. (less than one minute for 3,000 files!!)
Visit the “culling process” tab to discover how we cull your photos.

Our culling process is as follows:
1. First, Picsera reviews each image one by one and eliminates all “Clearly Defective” images. Clearly, Defective images include images of your feet, camera misfires, test images of your assistant holding the light meter, someone’s unintentional back side.
2. We will remove the “Unusable Images”. Unusable Images are images that contain the correct subject but are severely over or underexposed and blurry.
3. We look at the remaining images to identify “Duplicates”. Duplicates are multiple identical shots. We will try to find the best one or two and remove the rest.
i. On formal family images, we will cull down to the best one or two for every pose.
ii. In bracketed group shots or exposures, we select the best of the series.
iii. At times we may keep an unusable image (poor composition or slightly blurry image) if it is the only one for a given pose or special moment.
iv. We may keep shots that stretch the boundaries of “usable” when emotion overrides the technical drawbacks.
v. Images of good technical quality may be omitted if they don’t contribute to the story or if they are out of context.
Culling is a very subjective process. By using the Picsera culling process you agree that you are responsible for keeping copies of all of your images and you will not hold Picsera responsible for any culling decisions that it makes in selecting images. We generally recommend that if you want to use our culling service that you submit images in an approved catalog format (e.g. Lightroom). If you use an approved catalog format we will be able to cull your photos in a non-destructive manner. If you wish to submit the images without using a catalog format we ask that you create a special folder for photos that you want to be retained (not deleted).
